black running shoes

The number after the name

“Welcome to Run, how may I help you?”

“I’m looking for a comfortable pair of shoes,” she said.

“No problem,” I said, “Do you currently wear running shoes?”

“Yes.”

“Do you like them?”

“Sure, they’re pretty comfortable.”

“Ok, which ones are they?”

“They’re the ones on the wall right here,” she said, pointing to a Brooks Adrenaline.

“Ok, which ones?”

“This one, the Adrenaline.”

“Yes,” I said, “But there have been 17 different versions of this shoe; see the ’17’ after the word ‘Adrenaline’?”

“Oh, I do see. But I don’t know which one. My shoe doesn’t look like the one you sell.”

I said, “No problem. You’re probably wearing an earlier version. We’ll try the current model on your feet. But keep in mind that each version may feel different than earlier versions. So, if they don’t feel right, we’ll find a shoe that does.”
